Cendy Stephanie L. Borrel, Honeybee M. Doringo, Christian Ralph A. Gonez, Jetron J. Adtoon
Body mass index, or BMI, is a weight-to-height measure of body ratio and can provide insight into disease risk. This paper focuses on creating an automated body mass index calculator with dietary indications, which will automatically measure, calculate, and monitor a user's BMI, provide a proper dietary indication, and send an email reminding the user of the next scheduled BMI check. This study comprises a Raspberry Pi, Arduino Uno, sensors, and modules. Python is the language used in writing the software, while the database management system utilized is MySQL. Upon deployment of the system at the University of Mindanao, students, employees, and visitors served as users. Results show that the system helped users maintain their BMI through dietary indication. The system also encourages users to check their BMI monthly through email reminders. With the use of a two-sample t-test, results taken from 20 individuals showed that there was no significant difference between the standard and system-generated BMI data. Thus, the automated BMI calculator with dietary indication was accurate in reading and computation.

Development of an RFID-Based Control System for Residential Appliances with the Internet of Things
Robert Lee M. Bawiga, Shaira Mia E. Abrigo, Jetron J. Adtoon
The Internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals, or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. Many homeowners have difficulties monitoring their home electrical activity, which may cause electrical short-circuit, appliance overheating, or over-usage. These circumstances may lead to house fires, which can cause injuries or death to homeowners and dwellers and considerable damage to properties. The application of this research gives the idea to implement new studies towards the current developing form of technologies like the RFID and the Internet of Things. The compulsion of this paper is due to the continuous advancement of technology and to administer new tools effectively. The researchers chose only a feature of home automation: smart plug-in electrical outlets in residential areas controlled by a wireless RFID access and control switch. It uses an intelligent relay server that gathers data from a cloud database and gives the user easy access to the electrical appliances involved in the automation. Also, it helps monitor the status of every appliance involved in the study.

Ranie Jeb G. Dungog, Bryan N. Nebria, Jericho A. Suarez
This study describes the various environmental struggles experienced among the participants and their status in accessing justice. This aims to present the environmental violations experienced by the Lumad farmers in Davao City and how these affected their families and sustenance. This follows a qualitative multiple-case study approach. The participants are the Lumad farmers of Marilog, Davao City selected through a critical sampling method. Also, their status in accessing justice is explored. The study concluded that the most common struggles the participants experience are illegal logging and improper waste disposal, which affect their farms, family, health, and income. Their preferred means to accessing justice is through barangay settlement; the rigors of accessing courts, such as distance, expenses, fear of ruling, and the hassle of being called to be present in court, are the most prevalent barriers that hinder the lead farmers from accessing justice or seeking legal action. Nevertheless, the participants believed that the government would help them in accessing justice.

Sidney Paul A. Atil, Ely Jean A. Mejasco, Krystal Jade M. Ontic, Maico Demi B. Aperocho
Social pensioners are older people who rely on government-funded pensions to meet their basic needs. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted their access to essential services, such as healthcare and food. This prompted the researchers to conduct this study that focused on their experiences in availing of the social pension during the global health crisis. Using phenomenological inquiry, the researchers studied seven purposively selected participants' experiences, challenges, coping mechanisms, and insights. Based on the findings, the experiences of the social pensioners include numerous issues and some rewarding feelings, such as being grateful for the government's assistance amidst the pandemic. Despite these problems, the social pensioners expressed that they overcame them by employing effective coping strategies such as praying, diverting attention to other activities, and being creative. They also shared their insights regarding the importance of gratefulness for all the help they received during the health crisis. This study shows that, although challenging, social pensioners could survive their lives during the pandemic because of the government support provided. However, it is undeniable that the social pensioners also had their fair share of struggles during the pandemic. This can inspire social workers or any allied field to conduct further studies or propose policies or programs to help these vulnerable people during a global health crisis.

Donna Stephanie Claire C. Agcambot, James Raymond T. Azucena, Mary Angeline A. Micoy, Ariessa U. Codilla
The notion of cancel culture has become widely known in contemporary society. It is mainly associated with social media influencers, who are usually the victims of this phenomenon. Gen Z, on the other hand, is predominantly exposed to this culture. Hence, their views matter. Following the creative research format, the researchers interviewed four Gen Z participants with prior knowledge about cancel culture and two media professionals to expound the Gen Z's responses. The researchers found out that the differences in beliefs and values, wokeness, accessibility of social media, and exposure to the internet are among the factors as to why cancel culture takes place. The results also show that Gen Z views cancel culture as both positive and negative as it is toxic, harmful, and unhealthy; yet, it can also bring awareness and be informative. Whereas, for Gen Z participants, the journey towards self- redemption of canceled social media influencers requires an apology and hiatus from social media.

Padayon ang Pangandoy: The Future Media Practitioners’ Views on the Public Opinion to Media
Ma. Mikaela Alonso, Dinah Hernandez
The public's trust in the media has long been a major issue, and little attention is paid to what students who wish to work in the sector have to say. This study aimed to validate the public's perceptions of the media and how they affected the desire of aspiring media professionals to pursue this line of work. To fully understand how each perspective relates to the other, the researchers interviewed two non- communication students who are media consumers, two currently enrolled communication and broadcasting students, and a media practitioner. As a result, the public has positive and negative perceptions of the media, and the negative ones influence their trust. Future and currently employed media practitioners stated that these public opinions influenced them positively rather than negatively. Thus, the public's perception of the media has influenced future practitioners' motivation to work in the sector. The primary reasons for choosing this path are their passion for journalism and broadcasting and their desire to serve the public.
